Aunemouth Camping: migrating a South Devon campsite from WordPress to Digital Footprint
Higher Aunemouth Farm Camping Site is a family-run campsite on a converted dairy farm near Bantham Beach in South Devon, overlooking the Avon Estuary towards Burgh Island. Run since the late 1960s, it's built its reputation on simple, no-frills camping across three fields — Tree Field, Second Field and the estuary-view Williams Field — with hot showers, eco-friendly toilets and firebowl hire, for families, couples, surfers and walkers after a quieter kind of holiday.
The brief
The existing website was built on WordPress and had served the campsite well over the years, but it had become a job in itself to keep updated and secure. Bookings and pitch availability weren't handled online, meaning enquiries were largely managed by phone and email during the busy summer season.
The brief was to migrate the site away from WordPress onto a platform that was easier to manage day to day, and to bring pitch bookings online so guests could check availability and book directly, without adding any of the noisy, corporate feel the campsite has always deliberately avoided.
The owners were also clear that the new site needed to look and feel the part. This is a simple, back-to-basics campsite, not a slick holiday park, and the design needed to reflect that — earthy, organic and true to the farm rather than polished and generic.
What we did
We migrated the website from WordPress onto our own Digital Footprint platform, rebuilding the site's content — the three fields, facilities, local walks and beaches, and the campsite's history — while keeping the same relaxed, nostalgic tone the business is known for.
We leant into natural textures, earthy tones and honest photography of the fields, the estuary and the campsite itself, steering well clear of the glossy, cookie-cutter look of a typical holiday park website, so the site feels as organic and unpolished as the campsite it represents.
Alongside the migration, we integrated an online booking system so guests can see live pitch availability across Tree Field, Second Field and Williams Field and book their stay directly through the website, cutting down on the back-and-forth phone calls and emails during peak season.
Technology & integrations
Digital Footprint Platform
The new website platform, replacing the previous WordPress site and giving the owners a considerably easier way to manage content and bookings.
Booking System Integration
Real-time pitch availability and online booking for all three fields, integrated directly into the website.
The result
Aunemouth Camping now has a website that's far simpler to manage behind the scenes, with online bookings taking the pressure off phone and email enquiries during the busiest months — all without losing the simple, back-to-basics character that's kept guests coming back since the 1960s.
"He got our 'vibe' almost instantly. We now have a much better flow of navigation, an easy to use booking function and a much more attractive, colourful and engaging site." Sian Hester Williams, Aunemouth Camping
